Every year, the Nazar\u00e9 Big Wave Challenge draws international attention to our coastline. It\u2019s held at the famous Praia do Norte in Nazar\u00e9, where giant waves formed by a deep underwater canyon challenge the world\u2019s best surfers. During the event, spectators can witness the athletes\u2019 courage and skill as they face the raw power of the Atlantic, while also discovering the extraordinary beauty of the area. This isn\u2019t just an eventfor surfing fans \u2013 it attracts tourists, photographers, and lovers of the coastal atmosphere who want to experience the thrill of extreme sports in the heart of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The waiting period begins!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The waiting window is now open and will last until March 31, 2026. During this special period, the organizers of the Nazar\u00e9 Big Wave Challenge monitor conditions at Praia do Norte, waiting for the perfect moment to start the competition. The waves need to reach the right height and power, while wind and tides must be favorable. This ensures that surfers can compete in safe yet extreme conditions, and spectators get the chance to witness the giant waves in all their glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    WSL may announce:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Big Wave Yellow Alert<\/strong> – issued up to 72 hours in advance, signaling that the event may<\/strong> be activated.

    Big Wave Green Alert<\/strong> – confirms that the competition will<\/strong> take place within the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
