We begin by introducing four of them.

Lagoon loop route

(Resort -> Foz do Arelho)

The loop around the Óbidos Lagoon is a 50 km route. Allow at least 3 hours for this adventure. It’s best to go at low tide, which allows you to ride directly along the shoreline near the mouth of the Rio da Cal. Plan a short stop and rest at Musaranhos or the Escola de Vela. More than 50% of the route consists of gravel roads running right along the lagoon, past habitats of flamingos, herons, and other bird species found in this area.

Recommended bike: electric MTB.

Route to Supertubos

(Resort -> Praia dos Supertubos)

Ride to the legendary Supertubos Beach, where the World Surf League events are held every year. First, head toward Praia D’El Rey, then pass through the surfer village of Ferrel, and continue on to the picturesque Baleal Peninsula. Plan a stop at one of the cafés along the way—we recommend Kalifood in Ferrel or one of the spots located directly on the Baleal Peninsula.

The road then follows the bay stretching between Baleal and Peniche. Before entering the town of Peniche, turn left near the harbor to continue toward Supertubos. The distance is approximately 50 km, which you can cover on a road bike in at least 2 hours.

If you choose a mountain bike, ride along the cliffs from Praia D’El Rey toward Almagreira to avoid car traffic.

Recommended bike: electric MTB or road bike.

A Trip to Nazare

(Resort -> Nazare)

There’s always a good reason to visit Nazaré. In this magical town, you can visit the Surfing Museum, explore Praia do Norte—the spot where the world’s biggest wave surfing competitions take place—or have lunch at one of the local seafood restaurants.

Our route goes through Caldas da Rainha and then follows National Road 8, which in 2023 hosted the second stage of the Vuelta a España, toward the town of Alcobaça. Before reaching Alcobaça, we recommend descending to the small village of Cela, from which a scenic downhill will take you to the foothills of Nazaré.

Returning along the ocean is our recommendation. The Estrada Atlântica route toward Praia do Salgado, and then through Salir to Porto and Foz do Arelho, is a perfect opportunity to discover the wild, spectacular cliffside views.

The route is 95 km long and takes experienced road cyclists about 4 hours. Elevation gain? Around 1,200 m.

Recommended bike: road bike.

The highest peak of the region

(Resort -> Serra de Montejunto)

“This route is for the ambitious, with an elevation gain of over 1,200 m. Following it, you’ll reach the highest peak in the region, located at 666 m above sea level. Start by heading toward the lagoon, then take the new asphalt road along Rio Real, and continue on National Road 8 to Bombarral. From there, follow the Route do Vinho do Oeste, passing vineyards, until you reach the foothills of Montejunto near the town of Cadaval. The summit can be approached in several ways. The route is over 90 km long, and the satisfaction is guaranteed.”

Recommended bike: road bike.

[37
post-1907","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sport
["GET
